My fight with cold sores started in high school, before that I would get them but they wouldn't really bother me when I was younger. However, once you hit high school you become way more self-conscious and a cold sore can really ruin your week! It's not just your lack of self-esteem, it's the taunts that come with it.
By the time I had left school I assumed they wouldn't bother me so much, I was wrong! Whenever I got a cold sore I would feel low, feel kind of worthless and always feel like hiding away until it was gone. Unfortunately that was rarely possible, I would have to face the world, whether I liked it or not.
Let me start by saying that I never get some of the other symptoms associated with cold sores such as colds, sore throat and the other nasty stuff. All I would ever get was a simple cold sore, however it would be in the same place every time and it would be huge! When I say huge, I mean I have still never seen anyone with a bigger cold sore than my usual ones.
By the time I hit my twenties I was still getting them regularly and it had an adverse effect on my social life. Whenever I would get one I would stay in as much as possible, refusing to have any social interaction whatsoever. This would generally last around fourteen days, my cold sores are not only huge, they also seem to stay as long as possible!
It was at about twenty-four years (I'm now twenty-six) old that I started trying to stop the cold sores from showing up. One thing for sure is after-care didn't work, not one cold sore cream on the market helped relieve my cold sores. So I started looking into healthy living websites and home remedies to see if I could fight the cold sores that way.
I found a couple of great websites, one included a juicing website about a guy called Joe Cross. He juiced for 60 days and became incredibly healthy and so I decided to see if it would impact on my cold sores at all. After 40 days of juicing I gave up, not because I was unhappy with the results...but because I really wanted proper food, I had began dreaming about it on an hourly basis. A burger, a curry, a pizza, even toast!
So the first point I must make is that during the 40 days I did not get a cold sore, I am quite unfortunate in the fact that I would generally get one a month, although it could simply be a fluke that I didn't get one for the 40 days. However, I did feel fitter and healthier than ever so that of course is a good thing.
Eventually though the cold sores returned, so I decided to look to less extreme measures. This time a cold sore program that my friend had suggested. He had been using a cold sores website which had some great information and had rated a couple of cold sore programs. I did more research myself and decided that I would go with what they recommended as it did seem to be the best one out there according to user reviews.
Well I have some good news, after six months I am still cold sore free having followed this program to the very word. Not only does it seem to be working, it is also very cheap in comparison with tube after tube of cold sore cream and other methods I tested such as juicing, which would cost me about £10 per day. While I am only at six months of being cold sore free I do feel the corner is turned! I shall continuously update this blog with any changes or news, but for now I am one happy bunny!
